Prince Township is partnering with Lake Superior Watershed Conservancy (LSWC) to create an afternoon on The Great Trail’s land and water routes to give people an opportunity to experience outdoor activities on greenways, waterways and roadways. The goal of this event is to connect the Trail and the country for a grand celebration of The Great Trail and Canada’s 150th on our sections of the Trail.

1 pm - Everyone is invited to the Welcome Ceremony at Gros Cap Marina Park with MC Tim Murphy. All trail participants (paddlers, hikers and cyclists planning to participate in the hike or paddle event) meet at Park.  A commemorative red maple planted at the Park in celebration of the Great Trail during Canada 150 will be recognized at this time.

LSWC and Sault Ste Marie Voyageur Canoe Brigade are leading the paddling component with an interpretive trip on the Lake Superior Water Trail up the coast at Gros Cap.

2-4 pm Hike and Paddle Activities depart from Gros Cap Marina Park. These guide-led activities include the Hike on the Voyageur Trail's Gros Cap Loop, and the Paddle along the Lake Superior Water Trail's Gros Cap coastline.

Sign up for a seat in the Voyageur canoes or bring your own kayak/canoe properly outfitted for Lake Superior paddling (For Safety, visit http://www.superiorconservancy.org/trail-safety). **Message us to reserve a seat in the Voyageur canoes, and if you are planning to bring your own kayak or canoe.

** For cycling information related to this event, details will be available through the Sault Cycling Club. A limited number of seats will be available for participants wanting to experience the Voyageur canoes. Individuals are being invited to paddle their own properly outfitted canoes and kayaks suitable for touring on Lake Superior.

The local Voyageur Trail Association will lead a guided interpretive hike that will follow the beautiful Gros Cap Loop. (For more information, visit,http://www.voyageurtrail.ca/pdfs/trails/groscap.pdf)

The guided cycling experience will be led by the Sault Cycling Club. Cyclists are being invited to ride west from Sault Ste Marie to Gros Cap Marina Park on the newly designated Great Lakes Waterfront Cycling Route. Cyclists may be interested in combining the experience with paddling or hiking.

Entertainer Tim Murphy will be MC’ing throughout the day at Gros Cap Marina Park. And from 4-7, Rusty McCarthy, one of the finest guitarists on the scene today, will be live with a diverse repertoire of pop, folk, jazz, blues and R&B. Trail participants and the public are invited to enjoy the barbecue and fantastic music with Rusty McCarthy. Please bring your own camp chair and reusable beverage container. Come celebrate Prince Township's trails on the national celebration day for The Great Trail!
